I’ve spent so much of my time
I’ve spent so much of my self
Thinking I was the problem
Thinking I was at fault
Deserving of blame and shame

How clearly I can see
None of it was meant just for me

The broken pieces
The scars they’ve left

I thought they were mine
And mine alone

Little did I know
That the reflection in those shards
Was the pain and suffering of the world
Humanity’s collective broken spirit

How delighted am I now
To know
That I do have a stake in the woes of this world

For I’ve never seen a problem
Real or imagined
That could not benefit from my witnessing it

How joyous I am now
To know
That I can share with the world
What I’ve learned of seeking beauty and truth
In a broken reflection
