He was supposed to graduate today.
Instead, we got a wreath on his seat
And a somber Eulogy that refused to
Miss a beat. In memory of the poet
Who was slain.

He was supposed to graduate today.
He had a poem to read.
A story to tell.
A light to shine.
A fire to spark.

But I guess we're dousing flames this day.
I guess the sun forgot to come 'round this way.
I guess I'mma be the one to say
He was supposed to graduate today.
