A Few Nails
You can’t turn it back, you know,
that clock;
can’t retract those words,
pretend that they weren’t spoken.
Oh, what a fool I must have been
to be taken in
by such a long-term fiction
constructed from the mind of you.
I can’t forget,
can’t forgive
such a conspiracy of deceitful silence.
Do you wish you’d kept it going,
the illusion,
the pretence?
Does it really matter anyway?
Those words, after all,
were nothing more
than a few extra nails
hammered into a coffin of something
that was a long time
DEAD!
