Their bedroom is like a cavern

Or maybe a relic of rage

The angry lyrics, screamed

on the walls, in erratic script

Are now exhausted flames

And all those holes from once righteous fists

Tremble beneath torn pages with tape

I haven’t been there in a while, but

I see it, this minute, the lights off and the door jammed shut

No knob because

There was a war

Plus shattered glass windows because

There was a war

That fossil in the corner, the one that looks like a soldier’s boot

I used to tie the laces tight as I could

And

I think I might’ve lost it — them —

the fossil, in there

in the warzone

in the cavern of their bedroom
