My circadian rhythm has not quite been

hitting the right notes to relieve me into slumber.

Instead, my rhythm is this perpetual solo

that keeps stringing me on until the crack of dawn.

So my thoughts construct an orchestra,

playing a sympathy of lingering contemplations

and as the music progresses louder,

the bags beneath my eyes sink deeper.

I toss and turn in seek of a snooze,

but the light of the sun’s rays reflects off

of the trombones and completely blinds me.

This is my alarm clock, waking me up from

 the incarceration of my insomnia.
