The sound of a shovel digging in the ground made echo through the place. The biting air made her job hard since her hands were cold and her fingertips numb to the point of not feeling any sensation, however, she did not stop. Knowing that she had all the time world to finish the job, she sadly smiled. When she was done, she let a sigh and removed the remaining mud from the hole with her hands to make sure it would be well cleaned. After that, with skill, she slapped the sides of the hole to remove all the imperfections it had, then, she proceeded to grab a box -that she previously had brought with her- and put out a small piece of clay that had the shape of a little fetus. Then she carefully put it inside the hole and buried it. When the work was done, she stood up and a cold wind hit her, stirring her hair; the trees around her moved and their leaves moved along with them, dancing as if they were rejoicing with the scenario given to them -that's what she had thought- after that, she fixed her hair, picked up her coat from the ground and put it on. Then she sank her dirty hands its pockets and with a wrecked look, she prepared to leave the place. However, she noticed that the forest started to fill with an eerie mist. The chilly air now was even going through her thick clothes, freezing her to the bone. then, a sinister feeling embraced her. She suddenly heard mutters and rustles coming from the hole. Shivers ran through her body as her muscles strained due to the dread. She closed her eyes and gathered all the courage to turn around.

To her surprised, due to the shock, she couldn’t even utter a scream. She stood up there just contemplating. Her mind couldn’t believe what she was witnessing. A creature was standing beside the hole. The moonlight remarked its shape as an otherworldly thing.  The creature’s height was about 1 meter; it had a slim body covered with scars and its arms were abnormally longer than they should be for a body of 1 meter tall. Its twisted face showed pain and hatred. Its eyes were plunged into its face and black bags were surrounding them. The creature barely had a nose and its sharp teeth like-needles, popped in when he smiled. This hellish thing seemed to have come from the very depths of the burning Hades as he wanders the earth in the search for souls in order to torment them and she got the feeling that she would the next one to join.

Her blood rashly pumped through her body and her senses slowed her perception; she noticed that with each puff she was taking, her breathing got heavier and heavier. Then out of nowhere, the creature began to speak.

“So, thou are the one who summoned me here?” he asked.

She did not answer, instead, she used all the courage she had left and tried to run away, however, the creature suddenly appeared in front of her before she could even have the chance to get one more step. She stumbled upon her feet and fell back. The monster watched the whole scene without utter a word, then he proceeded to speak once more.

“I shall ask once more, if thou do not respond, I shall slay thee,” he said with cold words.

An overwhelming terror took over her when she gazed at the morbid creature’s eyes, nonetheless, she dared to speak.

“Y-yes, I-I think I was the one who summoned you, but I didn’t know that this would actually work,” she hesitantly said.

“and what did thou want in order for me to have been summoned? What is thee wish?” he uttered.

“I-I want my baby back!!!” she yelled as she gathered all her courage.

The creature didn’t utter a word and just kept staring at the girl who was kneeling on the ground.

“I want my baby back,” she started to cry, “I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry,” she kept saying, “ I didn’t mean to do what I did, I know I was wrong, I know I was wrong; it’s just that I didn’t want to face the reality and didn’t think about what I was doing,” she said with a gloomy look on her face.

She crawled towards the creature and grabbed its disgusting ankles.

“I want to hug my baby; I want to have it on me arms and hold it tight while I feed him. I have regretted of aborting him for so many years and I could never forget my greatest sin; that’s why when I heard about this ritual I tried it out even though I knew that it would be just a foolish joke, but if you are here and can grant wishes, grant mine and let me be reunited with him,” she cried out.

The monster giggled. He grabbed the woman by her hair and lifted her face. Then he spoke.

“Thee wish can be granted; I swear to my name. The only thing thou must do if to nod when I ask thou a simple question. Did thou understand?” he asked.

The woman nodded.

“Good, now the question. do thou hand over thee soul to me?” he dryly asked.

The woman gazed at its eyes and foresaw what it awaited her, however, she didn’t hesitate.

“Yes,” she said.

“Then, it’s a deal,” he said and let her go, “go and dig up in the hole thou had made before then grab a piece of the clay doll thou had made and eat it and with that thee wish will come true,” he said.

She did as she was told and after that, the creature disappeared and the unbearable cold started to disperse. A warm sensation started to fill her up. The woman then notice that she was no longer in the forest, but, she didn’t care because now she was holding her baby on her arms, then she closed her eyes and kissed her baby on the forehead as both burned in the flames of hell for eternity.
