For the man who loved me first..

I've formed a habit by your name:

Dakota is my mantra, more than

That, my future rests within each syllable,

My tongue recognizes it like sugar

Your skin like fruit, for it refreshes,

Restores vigor in my overactive veins which

Pump through me not my own blood

Like before, but yours, an antidote

For the ailment which started in my chest

I watched it course about without

Intent to cure it until my limbs

Reached for you of their own accord

And I could scarcely afford to deny them
