They huddled in the shelter of the leaning tower

“When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain?” Her voice was broken glass scraping across an azure sky.

“When the stars are again right.” The second replied dutifully.

The third said nothing.

She was watching the great shadow descending. Wavering. Reaching. There had been omens. There had been portents…

“Macbeth…” said the first wistfully…

“Shhh… it’s bad luck to say that name...“

“Hard to imagine our luck getting much worse.” countered the third.

All three laughed nervously.

And somewhere a chanting began to rise.

Ia Ia. Ia Ia. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

It was softer than they had thought it would be. But still it shook the world.

"He sleeps no more." They said in unison.

One by one the stars went out. Like actors silently leaving the stage.
