Behind a shield I lay, to keep any damage away. The tough and strong exterior, is to protect my interior. I'm not all hateful and mean, as I can make it seem. But through this pad and pen, is the only way I let people in. Not many truly know the real me, and that's the way I want it to be. I use words like daggers, to make people scatter. Making sure they never close in, and see the bars I lay within. Protecting myself from the world's hate, so I don't put my heart at stake. So when I write a rhyme, that is the only time. To take a look inside, of all the things I hide. Because when I lay my feelings on paper, that's the only time my shield will taper.
