Since When?

Since when did I feel this way?

Staring at the ceiling, as I wait and I pray.

Since when did these roads get smaller?

Stuck behind passing lights, a dog held by the collar.

Since when did I grow older?

Shifting restlessly in the grass, the days get colder.

Since when did these songs get louder?

Sound blaring through the walls, wilting the window flowers.

Since when did I notice life without you?

Since the same time I knew that it wasn’t true.

I took some time for myself and,

Put the pieces back on the shelf and,

Tried to focus on something else but,

I couldn’t move past the farewell.

Cause that’s the noise in my head,

Against the words I write with the words I said.

And there was something funny in the way I pled,

A rock against an edge, a heart stitched together by threads.

I knew I was ready,

So why didn’t I just say so already?

Since when did my voice become unsteady?

Since when did my legs turn to jelly?

And since when did I get to the point?

And then apologize after I disappoint.

Since when did you just stare?

Never lost for words, cause the words were never there.

All this time, I’d been wondering when and where?

What I should’ve been asking, do you even care?

So I am sorry, that’s it.

Sorry I couldn’t see beyond a slit.

And I’m sorry we can’t commit;

Doesn’t stop you from being a hypocrite.

Since when did you change your ways?

You’re so much different, when you mean what you say.

It was never about starting over,

But making something stronger…

Something I thought was there.
