Song Bird

That bird in the tree,
I watch as it sings
surrounded by air crisp and refreshing.
It contrasts the stuffy weight
at the bottom of my lungs.
That bird in the tree
sings for a mate unseen.
How patient it is in waiting.

God, give me patience like that bird..
Singing songs from the highest branch,
your praise, simple yet extravagant beauty.

A unique melody questing out,
waiting for a harmonious reply.

That bird will only live a tiny fraction of my life,
and yet it sings every morning - as bright as it can, for days, weeks or the season -
alas, another songbird joins its tune.

I now understand the beauty in waiting. If...

That bird in the tree
I watch as it sings, sings joyously and enduringly -

So can I.
