Moon

I am the ghastly moon that tends to ease

The outward-crawling darkness in mourning

Skies and infinite space; you may find that

Nights are only lonely without me here.

I am the one who glitters through the trees

And breaks their limbs; the cracking glow is sharp

And jagged, for I’m a lethal weapon.

I’m simultaneously start and end.

I am the one who lights the shimmering

Deep; the fretful fish flutter from fear of

Losing the light that I bring. I am here,

And I still stretch on. My light will prevail

’Til the envious push and shove of dawn.
