Blackened Sky

By Vera Anne Wolf © 2018

I sing below a blackened sky

The sun forgotten by and by

The earth below, corruptions spoil.

A man must live. A man must toil.

I weep below a blackened sky

And line my children up to die.

Was it for gold or glory’s fame?

The king alone holds all the blame.

I scream below a blackened sky

Let vengeance give me wings to fly.

They’ve taken all they can from me

And they should share this agony.

I sleep below a blackened sky,

My children greet me by and by.

The king of death holds out his hand

To join his army of the damned.

We wait below a blackened sky,

Our memories leave us by and by.

The day will come when we shall wake

And burn the living with our hate!

I sing below a blackened sky

The sun forgotten…by and by…
