Poem based on Blanche from "Streetcar Named Desire,"

....

I’m hopelessly insane

And I don’t understand it;

Neither do they.

They’ll offer me a drink

Not knowing I’m addicted,

And I’m not one to admit it.

And then they’ll give me another

If it will make me quiet.

With relaxation comes

Solemn reflections

Of love found and lost

Too early.

I cope by falling for every man I see-

It’s a never-ending game, a way

To somehow fill this hole in me.

I’m as empty as the bottom of a well

Of wishes never come true

And dreams never pursued.

The days go by with plenty of warning

But somehow each one is such a surprise

As it often is with one in mourning

All I can do is cry.
