I guess this is how it is on my own without a friend

Or a working payphone.

Now I know I’m old.

The streets are empty and my memories drift behind me slowly;

A foggy mist.

On my own,

Each face a stranger,

Each frown another dagger,

Cutting what’s left on the inside,

Deeply.

Conversation unfathomable,

Reality a street away.

Night suddenly becomes darker,

People put up their hoods and hide their face,

Like rats they seem to shuffle and scurry away.

Am I the only one left in this strange limbo between night and day?

I guess I don't have to sleep...

I can just go on with these
Midnight ramblings.

I sing the lullabies,
But drift farther from sleep
In awake land,
In strange limbo land
With a cloudy mind
And heavy eyes.
Racing thoughts
And peculiar images
Morphing,
Flashing,
Moving.
The mind tries to take
One thought or image
And drift
Or float,
But is pulled back to awake land.
Eyes open
Darting to different places in the city...

On my own
Thinking,
Almost dreaming,

A comforting melancholy

With a slow and gentle
Eye close
And it's growing harder to fight.

Heaviness drapes over
Heavy eyelids.

Body relaxed,

Steady breathing,

No more tears to be shed

Collapse onto concrete
With a silent humming
In the head,
In the head
In the head.
