The Forgotten

by Vera Anne Wolf © 2017

“They spread like the locust as vast as the sea

They hunted us down and then stung like a bee.

The fever crept over by then it was done

We fell by the thousands, all daughters and sons.

We are the forgotten who lie in the earth.

Our names they have taken to lessen our worth.

We are the forgotten, the damned and the poor

The sacrificed children of Aeradien’s grandeur.

They dressed us as soldiers and pointed us west

If this life is hell then in death we are blessed.

They chained us to cannons and gave us a gun

You fight or you die but you never can run.

We are the forgotten who lie in the earth.

Our names they have taken to lessen our worth.

We are the forgotten, the damned and the poor

The scarified children of Aeradien’s grandeur. “
