Solitude

The moon shines brightly on the new fallen snow

The air is still, the night quiet

Not a sound, not a whisper

disturbs the tranquility of this place

It is so peaceful, so quiet

No unneeded bodies to impose their presence,

their thoughts

No voices assail me, no opinions matter

Nothing can touch me while I am here

Away from the bustle of human existence

No signs of life or activity

intrude

There is no one here but me,

And even I am unimportant

Compared with this vastness, this silence

I am alone but not lonely

The silence surrounds, compels me, swallows me,

'til even my heartbeat I cannot hear.

The silence engulfs me 'til I am no more...

There are only footprints in the new fallen snow.
