You post about our birthdays and graduations and weddings

everyone loves that

they don’t know that 20 short years ago we were starving in your home

the home that we lived in but were scared to be at

thr home where you were suppose to make us feel safe and loved

we were hungry and hurting

you watch tv while lying across us on the couch

they came and took us and we thought it’d be the end

we came back and it happened again

i hate you but I dont

im thankful for the life we had after you were gone

finally we were home

but not with you

no with the people who loved us the most

we never had to question where food was coming from

or clothes

or toys

or hugs

no more bedbugs

no more lies

or lice

or locked bedroom doors

no more hurt

just everything we ever wanted

a family, home, parents.

you robbed us of our childhood

you robbed us of our happiness

but mom we are better now

with people who truly care.
