She Sings

She sings away her sadness,

she sings away her blues;

she sings to try to summon up

some long-forgotten views.

She sings to stop her crying,

she sings a lonely part;

she sings to find a remedy

for her broken heart.

She sings about entrapment,

she sings about her cage;

she sings to try and dampen down

her all-consuming rage.

One day she’ll get back to the sky,

and then she’ll sing with glee,

no more behind those cage bars

for then the bird is free.
