I woke up along the quake of grief

ran my hands like water

over the primal

uncaged

I woke up and touched the tremor

unbuckled each previous belief

laid bare beside the edge

breath by breath

with every screaming beat

ancestral roots exposed

like nerve endings

out of the blue and into the mouth

the chasm persists
