Fueled by irony, fired by gain:

Is life and all living so futile, so vain

That simply a spark can ignite so much pain?

I think so.

In jest bespoken, in disbelief -

Could something so sweet truly cause so much grief;

In one simpering moment, no sign of relief?

I say so.

Doused with water, smothered in tears;

Will beauty from ashes somehow reappear

In the ever-monotonous march of the years?

I know so.
