Words As Blades

Sharp today, aren’t you,

been honing those blades;

did they gleam brightly,

vicious and keen.

Ready and willing to

inflict some pain

and draw some blood,

those silver shiny pieces of steel.

But you’re no master swordsman;

can’t go in with the right word

to do the clean kill, can you?

No, you’re more of the cutter,

the slasher who lashes out,

with no idea where that blade

when it hits is gonna cut.

You might strike lucky

one of these days

and stroke a main artery!

You might strike the killing blow,

exsanguination of the verbal kind

instead of all these weeping wounds

just left to fester,

to scar from when your mouth

runs too far.

Lashing out and slashing out,

do you know how much pain you inflict?

I think you do

and I think that mostly

you really do not care at all.

I’ll patch myself with steristrips

until the next time.
