I promise, it's not what it seems

All the things I allow others to see

I would love to just be me

Though I cannot let that be

A purpose holds my sight

An urge to make things right

Although a village it takes, I've heard

Alone, I push. I observe.

A friend, I cannot retain

A love would bring more pain

Pushing forward is the only way

Pushing everyone else away

I may give you a piece of my time

But don't let it make you blind

I will forget as easily as need be

So that I am once again able to see

It is no fault in one or their path

But in the way I've learned from the past

It's not what it seems, this image of me

I won't allow myself to falter too long

Understand I am not above it

To be patient and to love it

But I've run out of time to play

And lessons need teaching today

I light my own path in the dark

I followed no steps but my own from the start

Cutting a crooked path of my own

Reviving myself when I drowned

It is necessary to teach them the truth

My children will know you can only trust you

Standing in solitude may be wrong

But they will know what it means to be strong
