I weep quietly & you don’t even know
how much I’m going to fuck’n miss you
I’m excited that you have this opportunity
and maybe that’s what I don’t like
that you currently have that freedom I crave
to do what you love
and you get to do it … where you love to be
at home … in Trinidad & Tobago
that’s where I want to be
making a house into a home
building the business we’re collaborating on together
and doing all the things that we normally do
the apartment won’t be the same
it will be a place to hide & sleep
there won’t be the laughter and banter
like when we’re home here together
what does it mean to miss someone?
it’s not that I cannot survive without you
I am independent & capable of being alone
even for long periods of time
I like my own company … it’s something I had to learn
but it’s the tug at my heart strings
that I feel the most
the longing to touch you … to look in your eyes
to hear you breathe as you sleep beside me
I will miss our ability to have candid conversations
there isn’t time for these via long distance calls
and texts just aren’t the same
as sitting quietly beside your lover and talking
not just idle chit chat … but conversation
the kind we like to have …
so how do you deal with the anticipation of missing someone you love
knowing it will be months before you see them again
only to get snippets of information & stories
because Big Brother is listening
I’m not sure … but my bottom lip is quivering
at the date that is circled on the calendar
that keeps getting closer each day …
once I pass over that threshold, I will look forward
to the day we can again embrace
and look at each other … face to face
until then, I support your dreams & goals
although I will miss you terribly it’s not goodbye … it’s until next time.
