the song of the siren

afloat on the breeze

warms the chill

brought forth through the trees

drawing me in

I give myself to its charm

no will to live

no conscious alarm

eyes slowly close

a smile kisses my lips

a sway moves through me

guided by my hips

a pool of murky water

reflects the grey of the sky

leaves land softly on its surface

though securing their demise

all is calm in the wood

all except my heart

pounding with a rhythm

and a pain, sickeningly sharp

my feet guide me forward

I forget to catch my breath

how I've longed for you, my love

for this sweet taste of death
