Pain

I've heard of things like this:
They often call it pain.
It tears you down and breaks you,
But you can't have none and gain.
Some say it moves you forward;
Some say that it's a curse.
They often call it painful--
But it isn't. It just hurts.
They say real men don't show it,
And real men don't shed tears,
They just take the blow and move along
For years
And years
And years.
But no: they're wrong, or lying;
Pain hurts (they don't know why).
And every tear's a treasure:
Because only real men cry.

We humans are a silly group;
We're cowards one and all.
We hate to scale Olympus
'Cause we're too afraid to fall.
We scarcely venture onwards
If it means we might be slain,
And we never brave the desert sand
Because we're scared of Pain.
