THAT KIND OF SMILE

When she smiles,

It doesn’t mean she’s okay.

It doesn’t mean she’s not in pain.

When she smiles,

It doesn’t mean she’s not broken,

It doesn’t mean she’s not alone.

Behind that smile,

Lies a thousand unspoken words,

Shadows endless scarred fears,

Hides countless hurtful tears.

Behind that smile,

You don’t know how many times she have cried,

You don’t know of the times she felt like giving up,

You don’t know the moments she wished she never woke up.

Behind that smile,

You don’t know how broken she felt feeling helpless,

You don’t know how empty she felt feeling hopeless,

You don’t know how alone she felt feeling lifeless.

Because of that smile,

She had much courage to rise up,

She had a chance to mend her broken heart,

She found reasons to wake up,

In darkness she sees sparks of light,

She sees purpose to put up a fight,

It could be the end but a definite fresh start.

She needs that kind of smile,

Because it means she has tried,

It means she is alive,

It means she has survived,

All she need now is that kind of smile.
