Girl Afraid of the dark

Afraid to fall asleep

Of being alone

Afraid of the memories

Something hiding

Deep in her brain

Locked away

To keep her safe

Lost in the ruble

Pieces of time

Wiped completely

From her mind

Girl afraid

Of losing control

Falling out of her body

Affraid she'll never be whole

Afraid her heart will stop

That she forgets to breathe

Choking on her fears

And what she refuses to see

Afraid of the noise

Afraid of the silence

Afraid she will lose her voice

Afraid to stay quiet

Why can’t she remember?

What happened in that shed?

Or on the Bed?

Where did she go

When he took those pictures?

And taught her how to bathe?

Praying to god silently

That she might be saved.

Hiding under the blankets

Trying to disappear

Blocking out the sounds

A little girl should never hear.

Afraid when her legs go weak

And her world goes black

Afraid those memories

Will steal her back.

A light near her bed

Body that barely sleeps

While terrors fill her head

Of a mans face she can not see.

More than 20 years later

Girl afraid.
