Like many aspiring actresses, my career was brief, and extinguished early.  Never the leading lady, I nevertheless pulled some solid, secondary roles.

Mrs. Ray, my kindergarten teacher, and the real star of this show, cast me in the Christmas play as a talking doll.  My one word line, "Mama," was spoken as my friend, Linda, wearing a Santa costume, bent me over from the waist.

It was downhill after that.  My next role as an animal trainer required I suit up in a leotard, to which Mrs. Ray had hand sewn a net tutu with large silver spangles.  As I held a hoola hoop sideways, three little boys costumed as animals jumped through one by one.  Task completed, I exclaimed, "Good work, animals!"  Thus ended my brief but illustrious career.

What I now most cherish, is Mrs. Ray's devotion to her own role as kindergarten teacher.  No longer recalling her features or age, I'm enveloped by the warmth of her caring nature, gentleness, and enthusiasm.  It's wonderful to have her in my book of misty memories.  Mrs. Ray, take a bow!!

(Did you act in school plays?  What sort of experience did you have?  Would you encourage your own children or grandchildren in this sort of performance activity?)
