Frank Deere, Jr., smoked five times a day.

It was a bad habit that caused friction with his wife, Stella, since they married young in their teens. He checked his cell phone calls, and smirked. "There's utter chaos in the World, you know", he told her. She blinked her blue eyes. She was concerned her husband would die from lung cancer. She grabbed her red nightgown, and read 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King, the classic 1975 novel about vampires. She was thinking about the haunted house in the book when she saw several zombies walking faster than normal. "Honey, there's some monsters outside our bedroom", she uttered. Frank gazed at the window. "Jesus!", he uttered. He opened the door. Then he grabbed his gun in his right hand, and started firing until the zombies continued to rush the house. The mania, which happened through unknown means, had left all of the humans susceptible to the disease. Frank screamed as one of the risers bit into left arm. He yelled in horror, then he dropped his cigarette. Blood spilled from the deep wound. He shuddered, then he died instantly.

Stella saw Frank rise from the dead.

It had cloudy eyes, and rotten flesh.

"Hungry! Hungry!", it said.

She ran out of the bedroom. She raced out of the bedroom. She went to the kitchen. In her right hand was a knife. She gripped it in her right hand, and opened the front door. She saw six zombies eating into their rotting fingers; she heard the sinister breaking of bones. She looked like she was in the middle of the apocalypse. She dropped the knife because it was useless. She saw the guns were on the creamy wall; she picked one up, and opened the door. Stella put new bullets into the gun, and aimed it at the zombies. And fired with force. When she saw the undead fall onto the ashy ground, they continued to rise up again. She fired until the zombies were dead. Afterwards, she felt her heart was beating faster and faster.

She was a survivor, and that all that mattered.

Gretel stared at the zombies.

She watched them.

Some were slow; some were faster.

A zombie boy was biting into his left, middle finger.

"Hungry! Hungry!", it stated. Blood spilled down the injured, rotten, finger. She backed away from the zombie. Then she fired at the riser until she was out of bullets.

General Ian Harding shook his head.

"They escaped from the Lab. It's outrageous!", he shouted at Jessica Rostrum, the Swedish-American scientist.

"It was an inevitable consequence of the plan, General. And it was classified". He looked at her, and sighed. "Inevitable! Rubbish! You're making everything harder for me to do my job", he stated. She looked at the zombies who were locked up in cages. Jessica had long, blonde hair, blue eyes, and petite. She wasn't dumb, she was smart. And held a PhD in science, and psychology from Harvard University. At thirty-eight, she was one of the youngest scientists to be educated in Sweden and New York in America. They wore the lab coats from twenty year's ago from the early nineteen nineties. "Don't go near them. They'll bite you, and you'll die. Once you've risen, you're a riser. And you'll have to die", General Harding said. One of the zombies, a eight year old girl, gazed at the General. "You can't kill us, General. We're beyond death", it stated. He gripped the rifle in his black gloved hands. "Don't! She's a girl". He forced a smile. "She is one of them. She will die eventually", he watched for a reaction. Jessica ignored him. The lab, which was full of wires, and bright lights, was covered by multi-racial guards. They held onto their rifles, and were prepared to shoot the zombies in case they raked their fingers across their hands. Jessica waited. Suddenly the girl zombie grinned. She bit into her left finger, and hit bone. She laughed, as she watched the scientist and General groan with horror. "Isn't it nice to belong here", it stated. They saw the blood drip down its left finger. And she grinned with malice.

Wayne Forster shivered.

He looked at his sick sister, Anna.

He saw her cloudy eyes.

Her flesh was rotting.

"Hungry! Hungry!", it stated.

He had enough of the stories of the mania. The psychological aspect of the zombies had preyed on his fractured mind; the mania was a symptom of the horror that seeped into his unconscious. He grabbed a .9mm gun and fired into his sister's chest. The blood dripped onto the ground. Wayne backed away, as he waited for her to rise from the dead. He heard his mom and dad. He fled out of her bedroom door. He ran down the hallway. He heard the creaking of his parents' bedroom. "Mom! Dad!", he uttered. Wayne saw the darkness. He frowned. Then he flicked on the light. As he did so, he saw them were biting their fingers with their teeth. He backed away, and ran away from his house. He opened the front door, and fled towards the military camps, where the zombies roamed freely, or in the labs.

Becky shuddered.

"You killed him!", she shouted.

The Jewish man nodded.

"He had to die. He was a riser".

"A riser", Becky said.

"A zombie. It's because of the mania that's gripping New York, and other parts of America. It first infected Tel Aviv, then headed to the United States in the labs. I'm Thomas Molker".

"Becky. My boyfriend died because of them".

"He was a victim of the risers. In Jewish lore, we have a golem. In America, you have zombies. The zombie is a creature that feeds on people's flesh, and is hungry. There's several ways to kill them. The scientists in the labs aren't God. They think they can control them. It is impossible. You see, the first case of the zombies in Isreal was back in nineteen seventy-three. Seventeen Jewish people died from the disease. Our doctors and nurses had to be prepared for the horror. They were called risers because all of them rose from the dead, and bit into their hands, and fingers. I am an ex-Mossad agent. Now, we have to survive before the night arrives". Becky nodded. She gazed at the brightly-lit hallway. "So, what now?", she asked him. Thomas thought about it. "Now we fight the undead", he answered her.

And she nodded, as she attempted to control the shaking that wouldn't stop.
