When I was a young parent
I too indoctrinated my kids
Repeating the lesson I was taught
I lied to them about the Tooth Fairy
I lied about Santa
I lied about the Easter Bunny
When they started becoming young women &
I required the truth from them
About when they would be home
Or who they were hanging out with
That’s when I realized the damage I had done
How could I ever expect my kids to tell me the truth
When I had been lying to them all those years?
My friends would try & shush me by saying
Oh let the kids be kids
They’re only little
They don’t know any better
For how many years will you lie to your kids?
Perpetuate the lie or tell the truth
Therein lies your dilemma
