Floorboards creak above.

As I gulp alone in bed,

My blankets up to my nose.

Pale moonshine flickers,

Through my cold, snowy windows,

And strokes the dark walls

Where shadows loom and grow

Like skinny goblins

With claws sharp enough to kill.

They clench their fingers,

And creep upon the carpet.

My ears catch the sound

Of low moans in the attic.

The ceiling vibrates,

And I wheeze quickly.

I duck beneath my blankets.

They drag off slowly.

While shivers skate my body,

A grayish ghost appears.

Over me it whispers, “Scream.”

I shriek wildly

As sweat beads under my arms.

The ghost stretches down,

And seizes me by the neck.

My throat squeezes shut.

I gasp straight in that ghost’s mouth.

It chokes me until

My pulse pounds louder than the

Floorboards creak above.
