I wish I were a bird with wings

So would have flown-

Flapping and fluttering

Waving and wagging,

All alone!

I would have crossed the rainbows

Thrashing through the winds

Ending up being the violet blue

By submerging into the colors, one or two-

I wish I were a bird with a red beak

So would have picked up the crumb

Grasped it tight to my nest

And cherished the feast!

Wouldn’t the kisses be so lip-smacking?

The ones I’ll imprint on my babies’ cheeks-

And they will giggle and gurgle

Oh, my tiny lovers and freaks!

I wish, I wish I were a bird with wings

Happy and free

Unrestricted and at liberty!

I wish I were a bird on life’s every single page

Unburdened- not a captive, caged!
