Everyday events convolute the resolve of even the most determined. To need or to want?
Embrace that inner need, that moral compass that asks but for honesty of being. (Image by Federico Bebber)

Gasping for What?

How startling the beginning
awakening to breath,
gasping to mindfulness
where sentience rouses to space.

How simple this moment,
how rarefied this consciousness
often taken for granted,
usually ignored,
ever patient,
even as one’s chemical makeup

oft times derail direction,
leaving awareness gasping for air.

To escape,
to lie among the grasses,
to splay one's existence
as a message of needfulness

seeking room.

The discovering of life’s simpleness
of breathing detached existence,

to enjoin in the oneness
of Earth’s melting snows,

to allow the mind to soar the hawk,

to remain humble among the ants,

to count one’s breath as a chant of respect,

Just be.

Attachment knows well the panic of gasping,

even when it knows not for what.
