In the dead of night, I look around,

Nothing but insects, clouds I see,

The swoosh of wind, chirping sound,

Alone in nature,

Just the atmosphere and me

Somnolence,

As I lay my head to sleep,

I fear nothing,

Naught here or about,

And my thoughts,

No longer mine to keep

As I let them swirl,

And begin to push out

Grass below, the sound above,

The descent into dream is nigh;

I see myself, the ones I love,

The remnants of truth as I lie

Degression,

Through the torrent of respite,

Clemency carries past,

Onward without fright;

As the beetles grow haggard and dull,

Counting the stars, counting ‘til light,

Laying to rest their chirping and jest

When sleep takes my soul tonight.
