This really happened. I never will understand it. Can animals be zombies?

This happened when I lived in the panhandle of Florida. It was in the 1990’s.

I woke up in the middle of the night and got up to get a snack. Before I could turn on the kitchen light I saw my cat Louie walking across the deck. The light on the deck made it a stage.

Louie was hunched down as he walked and looking behind him like he was scared to death of something following him. He let out a very strange sound I can’t describe. It was one of sheer terror. I knew it had to be something really horrible. Not just any  animal. I wanted to open the sliding glass door to let him in but he went up the tree by the deck. It’s the tree he always climbed up to get up on the roof.

I’ve seen cats afraid before but nothing like this.

I waited for what was obviously going to appear next.

And it did. It was another cat.

But it looked DEAD. Like an animated carcass. It was a gray striped cat and its fur was scruffy and dirty and sticking out all over the place. Some was matted down. No cat would let its fur get that way. At least, no living cat.

The “carcass” stopped in front of the tree Louie climbed. Then it turned its head toward me.

I don't think it could see me though. The light was off inside and on out. Maybe it was looking at its reflection in the glass door. But its eyes. They were HUMAN eyes.

They were big, round human eyeballs where cats eyes should be. The carcass then looked up the tree where Louie had gone and climbed it.

I was so worried about Louie. Why was it following Louie??

I was too petrified to go outside or even open the door. Yet I felt guilty about Louie being out there with that thing and it pursuing him.

I was hoping Louie would come to the door so I could quickly let him in but he didn’t.

I managed to fall asleep and at daylight I got up and went in the kitchen. I saw Louie sitting on the deck, as usual, waiting for his breakfast. As if nothing ever happened. I was so relieved but perplexed.

Why was that zombie cat following my cat around? What did it want? How  can a dead animal walk? Why did it have human eyeballs? Was it possessed?
