Left Out?

I’ve seen all of the bustling

and the panic all about;

there’s something that is going on

of that I have no doubt.

The aromas from the kitchen

are surely smelling good;

you’re making me a special meal

as I know only you would.

But suddenly I find myself

being moved out of the way.

I give a hiss, a little yowl,

a sign of my dismay.

You’ve shut me in a different room

while you sit down to eat;

but I am simply overlooked

I will not admit defeat.

I’m going to make an entrance,

one you won’t forget,

perhaps it will be one mistake

that soon you will regret.

Your walls are really very thin,

so easy to break through;

here’s an entrance show-stopper,

so spectacular for you!

I can sit here patiently

while you fetch that extra plate;

sorry if yours is getting cold --

it’s your fault that I’m late.

Brilliant, Hully! A terrific piece! I know all too well the struggle of keeping a pet in the next room while you try to have a family dinner.
