"Hello everyone. For those of you who may not know, my name is Caroline Coorley, and I am just so honored to be here tonight. Before we begin, I want to take a moment to celebrate some of the people who made this night possible. Courtney Riggs, you know how much you’ve contributed to this, but no one else can even fathom it. Thank you so, so much for your unwavering support and undying love for this organization. We are all so terribly grateful. Kevin James, for your vision and passion and persistence, thank you, Kev. Darian and Alexander, our troubleshooters, you saved us tonight, thank you. Of course, Rachel Cooper, this is a personal thank you. You are my rock, Rach. Couldn’t do it without ya. And the thank you I do not have the words to articulate, Barry Jones. Oh, Barry. We owe this entire thing to you. I don’t see you, but I know you’re out there- oh, perfect. Barry, thank you. That’s it, that’s all I can say is, from the bottom of my very heart, thank you, Barry.
“Wow, okay. As I said, I’m so honored to be here tonight and I’m so pleased to see so many of you wearing red. It’s emotional, and overwhelming for me to see this much support and feel this much love for Kasey. It’s been… Thank you, all of you.
“Tonight we have with us an incredible woman, here for the first time in Tuscaloosa, actually. Mary Ann Hunt is a Clemson graduate, so watch your “Roll Tides” around her, and she’s undoubtedly the best and brightest in the field. Dr. Hunt graduated from Clemson with her B.S. and then Masters in Bioengineering nearly thirty years ago now, before getting her doctorate at Johns Hopkins University.
“Of course, Mary Ann is also a personal friend of mine and possibly the greatest person I know. I’m so excited to hear her wisdom and the little tiny bit of her firm’s medical advances that I can actually comprehend. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome to the stage, Dr. Mary Ann Hunt.”
“Thank you, Caroline, for that lovely introduction.”

----

“That was good. How do you feel?”

“Like a fraud.”

“No one knows.”

“Yeah. Exactly.”

There’s a pause as Kevin gathers his words.

“So, why-” He doesn’t need to finish. Soft, full, red lips push against as his eyes flutter shut. Five long, slender fingers work their way up the back of his neck and fold into his hair, pulling softly. Caroline’s lips press in deeper. Her teeth catch on his. She lets out a quiet moan. Kevin closes his eyes tighter.

----

“Dr. Mary Ann Hunt, everyone! Thank you, doctor, for your insight into our lives and your contributions to this world. Mel, it’s better because of you.”

“You’re too kind, Caroline. Always have been.”
