Bowed Down

Invisible force propelling you down,

compelling you to bow down to the ground.

This ground you had struggled, up to be free,

growing and strengthening in to a tree.

The wind, is now wailing, pushing with force,

bending you on to an opposite course.

Like octopus limbs your branches will lash,

thrown back and forward as quick as a flash.

The twigs and the leaves will tremble with strain

as on to the branches they try to remain.

You push back to vertical, point to the sky

while the wind tries it’s hardest to cause you to die.

But it will not continue, your roots they are strong

and remain in the ground which is where they belong.

Thanks, Mike. This was inspired by my sitting there watching this one tree being buffeted backwards and forwards for an hour while I was waiting.

Thanks, jmm. We were battered by storm Diana today, and I was watching this quite young tree thrashing around and trying to hold its ground.

I love this, Hully. Battered and bruised by the elements, but indestructible. Fabulous poem (and picture).

Thanks, Sue. I was watching this tree for ages today, and that was what inspired it.
