La Secreto Mariposas

Chica Mariposa.

Butterfly Girl.

Mariposas are elegant. With their wings spread wide. Their tiny black bodies and heads. They migrate in large groups, painting a moving rainbow in the sky. They enjoy the nectar from the oranges, sweet juice dripping down. Her smile is sweeter, brighter than the sun that gazes down on us and the mariposas. They say that there’s no other girl like her, her eyes glisten like a jewel sea. They say she’s alone but she’s happier that way, her mind clear as the wind blows through her hair and the trees.

She was born in town, was sent away to an orphanage by her parents. She was different, deformed, her hand limp and nub looking. Her parents loved her but things were changing in the town, lots of sickness, so the children needed to be moved to another island to stay “clean”, away from the “touched” people. She was shy and that made her a wonder.
