Saline

Along the shoreline,

make my way;

those saline teardrops

mingle with

those real ones

I cry.

Gather up the pebbles;

not any will do,

must be smooth,

flat,

for what I have

in mind.

Stackable;

I’ll build a tower,

carefully placed,

it’s all in the

balance.

Large at the bottom,

small at the top,

a cascade when

that rule

I went and forgot.

I lick the salt

from my lips,

a tower of pebbles

to mark my presence

until the ocean

sweeps up and through,

takes those stones

off to you.

And I will take

those

salty,

saline

teardrops

home with me.

This is lovely. I pictured the whole scene whilst reading it and it was so good I’ve read it several times over. Good job

There's an air of melancholy in each line. Beautiful imagery, Hully. The mood reflects a beach's calm.

I live in a very rural setting, not by the sea but part way up a mountain. I think I'd find it hard to go back to somewhere more densely populated now.
