Saline

Along the shoreline,

make my way;

those saline teardrops

mingle with

those real ones

I cry.

Gather up the pebbles;

not any will do,

must be smooth,

flat,

for what I have

in mind.

Stackable;

I’ll build a tower,

carefully placed,

it’s all in the

balance.

Large at the bottom,

small at the top,

a cascade when

that rule

I went and forgot.

I lick the salt

from my lips,

a tower of pebbles

to mark my presence

until the ocean

sweeps up and through,

takes those stones

off to you.

And I will take

those

salty,

saline

teardrops

home with me.
