Sometimes I do things backwards

inside out, taking slight detours

linear roads don’t often present themselves

even if they do, I tend to veer off

finding my own way along

hidden highways

adventures and heartbreak

go hand-in-hand

searching for rugged trails,

making the trek

tiresome, yet, exhilarating

asphalt paved roads are dull

colorful roads off the beaten path

offer challenges

an encounter or two

an ordeal or risk

bumpy, choppy

uneven

like a bicycle on cobblestone,

sometimes reemerging, exhausted

seeking the safety of a dotted line

on the asphalt road

It's good to slip away from the well-trodden path sometimes. Nice write, Compass Girl.
