Spending a few hours walking in Central Park is a nice way to spend a late Saturday afternoon, also makes you hungry. Exiting the park on 72nd street,I walked towards Broadway to a little spot I know.If there is a heaven and I slip in through a side door left unattended when my time comes,I hope they have a Grey Papayas, a hot dog empourium located throughtout Manhattan.

I go in and place my order,"I will have two with mustard and kraut, with a small mango drink." I get my food and drink and head towards a long shelf, there are no tables or chairs in the place, it's to small for that. You stand, you eat, you leave. Easy peasy.

Eating my food, i'm looking out the window, watching the people pass by, the cars, trucks, and buses all jockeying for position on Broadway, i notice a young woman sitting on the ground with a sign reading,"homeless and hungry". People were passing her by, she had a look on her face not of saddness, but a look of please acknowledge my existance. After watching her for a few minutes, i decided to buy her a couple of hot dogs. I finish my meal, and go back to the counter and place another order, Two hot dogs with mustard and a bottle of water."

I leave Gray Papayas and cross over to her and hand her the bag with the hot dogs and water in it and I said to her, "Here you go." Without looking into the bag, she hands it back to me and says, "Thank you, but I don't eat pork." I take back the bag from her and I cross the street heading to the subway stop.

But first, I sat down and started to eat the hot dogs that she didn't want. And I began to think to myself,"Why did she set up shop in front of a hot dog place if she didn't eat pork. I guess she had religious reasons,or maybe she was a vegan." But, how many other people might have done the same thing before i got there?

Just then, she pick herself off the ground and got her sign and her duffel bag and began to walk down Broadway. Since we were on the upper west side of Manhattan, maybe she was going to try Zabars, where someone might offer her a nice sandwich on pumpernickel or rye. But if that happen, would she tell that person that she "doesn't eat gluten"....
