A Ghost Story

Chapter One: The Graveyard

I was walking Home from school. The usual route, past the graveyard. I was almost past the gate when I heard the bushes at the back rustle. There was no wind so I decided to check it out. When I got behind the bushes I saw a very pale girl dressed in pure white rags. When I opened my mouth to ask who she was, she turned around, said “See you in your nightmares.” and vanished into thin air before I could get a good look at her. All day I wondered what she had meant when she said see you in your nightmares. Did she mean my actual nightmares, or, was I about to experience a real life nightmare that I couldn't escape from? When I got to school I blocked out everyone, even my best friend Anne. It was hard but I managed. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt because of me, especially my family or friends. Eventually I got to home room. When I got there, a new girl sat next to me. “Hi! My name’s Ami.” she exclaimed. “What’s yours?” “M-my name’s Aria.” I stammered nervously. Why did this person somehow feel familiar? We started talking and found out we had a lot in common. During break she pulled me aside and whispered, “she haunts me to.” The next week Ami was gone. I was starting to get worried. What if the ghost had killed her? I would never forgive that ghost.(not like I knew her or anything so I can’t exactly hold a grudge…)All week I looked for Ami around school. I couldn't find her so I gave up looking. The next week Ami was back. When I saw her in the school yard, I ran up to her and gave her the biggest hug ever! I saw Anne looking at us like she wanted to kill Ami. I realized that Anne was jealous of my friendship with Ami. I had hung out with Anne since we were in kindergarten. While Ami was at school I tried to hang out with both of them, but Anne flatly refused to even talk to her. After Ami had been at school for a month, Anne resorted to rumors. She started spreading rumors about Ami, and even me! I couldn’t believe my ears! Anne, my best friend since kindergarten, was saying that I snuck out at night to party with boys! She and I both know that I would do nothing of the sort, but the rumors got wilder and wilder, she even said Ami was a vampire, I had problems, it was crazy! People were shooting weird looks at Ami and I in between classes. I decided to put a stop to this once and for all. Except I didn't know how.I decided to completely ignore Anne. I pretended that Anne transferred schools. I ignored her in the halls and at break. Anne was away from school a lot lately. I even forgot about the ghost until that night. I woke up at 3:00 in the morning. “The witching hour”  I thought. Then I opened my eyes. She was standing (or floating) next to my bed. She looked at me and I saw her face and I gasped, It was Anne. I asked why she was here, and she said, “I am the past, present and future. I am the answer this world is looking for.”That night I had the worst nightmare ever. Ami and I were surrounded by dark veils. They were swooping over us, wrapping around us and choking us. Then I woke up. I got dressed, ate breakfast and packed my bag. When I got to school everyone was sad. Some people were even in tears. When I asked them what was wrong they said, “I don’t want to be the one to tell you this but I’m sorry.” Then the principal came over the loudspeaker “Students, I am very sorry to tell you this but a fellow student has been found dead in her home. Please remember her as a kind and extremely smart student, with a wide range of humor and fun. The student was Ami.”

That’s all I remember before I woke up.

Chapter Two: Alone

The next day was Saturday. I went to Ami’s house and rang the doorbell. Her mother, Caroline, opened it. “Hi.” I said. “Is Ami home?” I asked. “Yes” she said “I’ll bring her down. “Why don’t you come in and wait.” Asked Caroline “ok.” I said. I walked in and sat on the couch. Caroline came down and said, “ can you come up please Aria? She’s not opening her door.” Sure.” I replied.I was confused. This wasn't like Ami. She usually kept her door open. I opened her door and gasped. The ghost was there floating over Amis lifeless body. She had her back to me, then my mind made the connection. Ami was dead. I gasped and started to cry. The ghost whipped around, said “watch your back.” and vanished. Amis mother heard me crying and came up. When she came up and saw Ami dead she burst into tears. We cried for hours then Caroline said she should start planning the funeral. After Ami died I went into a severe depression. I was also very frustrated because no one believed that the ghost killed her. I got so mad at people I started seeing red. My parents were staying up very late and I felt like they were talking about me. But I trusted them. They were the only ones that believed me about the ghost I opened up to them and told my parents everything about the ghost. How she was Anne, she appeared at random times and how she killed Ami. I thought they believed me. I thought they understood. I was convinced they were on my side. Then they did something. Something I couldn’t forgive or forget.
