Ave, Old Saint

.That’s a funny way of feeling.

.Spinning round and round beneath this bright ceiling.

.The view we’d see to start the healing.

.The good we’d do to stop the stealing.

.& Sometimes I can’t tell the difference.

.I can’t forfeit my own ignorance.

.Pinning it on a lack of interest.

.Call it what it is, Christmas.

.But there was no reason to fight it.

.It’ll treat us all the same till we quit.

.Year by year, waiting, dug in the pits.

.So expected, putting on this holiday skit.

.Then there’s us.

.Who can live without the fuss.

.Walk on, skip the band’s bus.

.As far as we make it, till rust.

.So that’s that then.

.See you someday, when.

.Knowledge fails you, wise men.

.And we’re left here again.
