Vale, To All

What would she say?

Something’s just not working,

It just doesn’t feel right.

It’s not the way it was,

On that midsummer’s night.

What would he say?

I feel the same way,

But I can’t explain it either.

What made us this way?

Broken-hearted believers.

What could she say?

Is there anything we can dream,

To change the course we’ve set.

To lay it all on the line,

Here till the day we met.

What could he say?

But that’s the thing,

I don’t know how much to give.

This and that takes and it takes,

I’m left with nothing to live.

What should she say?

I’ve got enough for both of us,

But is it ever fair?

Pretend everything’s fine,

These problems? we don’t care.

What would he say?

I don’t want to make pretend,

& I don’t want it to be all on you.

So let’s work this out, please,

Tell me what we should do?

What did they say?

You’re Special

You’re special, but you are alike everyone else.

You’re beautiful, but only when someone compliments you.

You’re smart, but only when the problems get easier.

You’re healthy, but only after your sickness fades.

You’re photogenic, but only when the sun comes up on your skin.

You’re growing up, but only after you recover from being put down.

You’re living large, but only when you grow tired of being small.

You’re going places, but only after you’ve been stuck in the same place all your life.

You’re special, but so am I.
