 Arboreous Friend

Swollen buds must make you smile

Once growing after a latent while

Amidst cold and ice; I say sufficed,

“Swelling buds make me smile.”

A leafy limb must bring a grin

When nestlings heard deep within

Your shadowed green, remain unseen;

“Nested limbs make me grin.”

 A vivid leaf can turn a frown

When buoyant found, upon on the ground

On a puddle, lain by fallen rain;

“Falling leaves make me frown.”

Sleeping giant with cause to laugh,

Quiescent tree in the old man’s grasp

 With roots too deep for the frost to creep;

“Sleeping friend,

This makes me smile.”
