In the darkness he grabbed me, hurled me to the floor. The shards of glass on the floor gave me numerous cuts. He pounced on me and pinned me down, laughing a hedonistic laugh on hearing me cry. I screamed ,I wailed, I flailed my arms and legs but he had me under him. His weight crushed my body, the glass pierced me further, I could feel the blood trickling, I could feel his satisfaction. I felt his hands on my throat, he tightened his grip bit by bit, taking pleasure in every moment, taking his time killing me. I tried to free myself but his steel grip held me down. Harder pressed his hands, worse was the pain, scarce was my breath. He strangled me, whistling all the while, I desperately wished for air but he made none reach my lungs. My body tired, my eyes lost focus, my consciousness was slipping away. He was winning and I losing, dying. Was he the one I had lost my heart to? Or was he the one trying to stop the beating of that very heart? How could my version of him have been so painfully different from the real him? The evil in him was heaving with pleasure and the last traces of my life were leaving me. But I couldn't give up yet. With the last ounce of strength left I willed the sun to fill the sky with radiance that would defeat the darkness, that would fight the evil strangling me. My time was running out fast and my prayers intensified. He kept his hands wound around my neck and I kept wishing for that last breath to stay for a bit more. But it was going away fast. I was losing . To him. Again. I couldn't see. I couldn't feel. I couldn't breathe. I hadn't thought this would be my end. I hadn't thought it would feel like this. Like the soft warm rays of the Sun. Was I in heaven? Yes. I smiled as the Sun caressed my lifeless body and filled my slightless eyes with light. A new light. Like a curtain being removed. And then I saw it. I saw evil. I saw him. Atop me. His hands on my neck losing their grip, his face distorted with fear and confusion, his body drooping. I saw it all. His eyes losing their gleam, his face losing its colour, him dropping to the floor with a thud, his body shrinking, getting smaller, so much smaller that now it was the size of a closed fist, the size of a heart. He looked ugly, distasteful ,disgusting. Had I really been blind to his vices, to his wickedness? I rose, the sunshine making me feel fresh, new, powerful. I picked up his small body, he really was ugly. With a smile and a lot of contentment, I did what I should have done long ago. I threw him into the hearth and watched with joy as the flames lapped and danced, devouring him, killing him, removing him from my world forever. He was gone. I looked up, smiled at the effulgence in the sky and walked away to a new life. A life with no evil in it. With only one memory from the previous life. The memory that evil had been defeated.
