In a world where conformity bodes well for those satisfied with mediocrity, far too little is credited to the inordinate creativity that challenges and often upsets the mental health of the so-called sane. (Image by NY Times)

Curing Sanity

How gentle we must tread,
For crazy remains tacked,
Hammered,
Forged
Upon censoring minds.

After all,
They tell us,
How can we anticipate respect
When we admire and contemplate those
Who paint chapel ceilings upside down,
Cut off their ears,
Fill their pockets with stones to enter raging waters,
Painfully compose major works while deaf,
Dig through sewer mud seeking sculpture's clay?

Might it be,
Creative efforts provide
Much needed remedies
For curing sanity?
