The sun sets on a hot tropical day and you will find the nocturnal garden dwellers come alive.

It was love at first sight. He trembled with anticipation at the thought of being so close was tantalising.  He could not resist getting up close and personal and tonight was the night. He had watched avidly as the flower spike first emerged from the Mother plant. The bulb plant Hippeastrum Apple Blossom was the first of the kind that he had ever seen. As the hot humid days progressed the spike grew tall and the buds formed into maturity. Finally he had to see for himself the beauty of this flower. He pondered to himself frowning at his clumsy green feet, would she stand tall or would she fall over if he tried to climb her. He would have to risk it, he longed to feel that pink velvet face rub on his green face. He would be very careful to test her strength - if he thought she was starting to buckle, he would abandon the whole plan. He did not want to destroy her beauty over such a risky move.

The night was young, he felt young and impulsive like he was going out on his first date. Did he dare go through with this? Absolutely, when you are smitten you kinda lose your head and think you are invincible. OK so here goes, big deep breath in and nimbly traversing the beautiful strong flower stem, his green foot suckers held him in good stead. And then he was there…….he couldn’t believe his luck. His heart was racing, it was everything and more than what he had first imagined. The colours were amazing and he gazed at the perfectly symmetrical flower, how did Mother Nature engineer this piece of art so well.
